CNC quoting software

CNC quoting softwarethat measures the part before it prices it.

MetronQ reads the geometry from a STEP or IGES file or from a drawing, fits the part to your machines and prices it on your rates and material costs. The estimator sees every line of the price and decides what reaches the customer.

01What quoting software does

From file to quote, every step in view

Quoting software does not replace the estimator. It takes on the repetitive part - measuring, calculating, choosing the blank - and lays the price out in lines that can be checked.

  1. The customer's file

Through the widget on your website, or uploaded by you in the panel.

    STEP · IGES · PDF · DXF
  2. Geometry readout

Envelope, holes with diameter and depth, threads, pockets, the thinnest wall.

    measured, not typed
  3. Machine fit

The part is tried on your park: work envelope, axes, smallest cutter.

    your machine park
  4. Time, material, price

Minutes operation by operation, a blank from stockist sizes, setup once per order.

    your rates and margin
  5. The gate

Your rules decide whether the price goes to the customer at once or waits.

    Price at onceTo the estimator
  6. Price at once: The customer sees the price

In the widget, and can order straight away.

  7. To the estimator: The estimator decides

Approves, corrects or rejects, with the price breakdown in front of them.

  8. To the estimator: The quote goes out

An e-mail with a link and a four-digit code. You download the PDF with your logo from the panel.

  9. The order

Production and payment status in the panel, next to the quote it came from.

The gate has three settings: every price at once, every quote reviewed, or review above an amount threshold. To begin with, we recommend reviewing every quote.

02Spreadsheet, calculator or software

Three ways to work out the same price

Any of them can produce a good price. They differ in who supplies the inputs and what happens when the inputs are incomplete.

Does exactly what is written in it, and every formula is visible.

Where the dimensions come from
The estimator copies them off the drawing
Who counts holes and threads
The estimator, counting on the drawing
When the part cannot be made
The sheet prices it anyway
Where pricing knowledge lives
In the file, and in the head of whoever built it

A spreadsheet has one advantage worth taking seriously: every formula is in plain view. Quoting software should give the same transparency - in MetronQ every line of the price is in the breakdown, and the estimator can correct any of them before the quote goes out.

03How to test it

The test: five parts you have already quoted

A demo shows a part the software knows. Your shop quotes other ones. Before you choose CNC quoting software - ours or anyone else's - try it on parts from the last few weeks whose price you know.

Step 1

Pick five different parts

Not five similar plates. Take a plate with pockets, a shaft, a part with threads, a part of an assembly and one part you only have a PDF drawing for. Write down the prices you quoted.

Step 2

Check the readout before the price

Count the holes, threads and pockets on the drawing and compare them with what the software found. A price built on a wrong readout is right or wrong by chance.

  • In MetronQ the readout sits next to the price in the panel, feature by feature.

Step 3

Compare the prices line by line

The difference on its own says little. What matters is where it comes from: material, machining time, setup or margin. Software that only shows a total cannot be tuned.

Step 4

Calibrate, then upload five more

Calibration fits the software to your prices. The real result shows on parts the software has not seen before.

  • MetronQ needs at least five quotes: your parts with prices for 1 and 10 pieces, or approved quotes.
  • Two values are fitted: the calibration multiplier and the setup time.

Step 5

Give it a part you cannot make

Too big for your machines, or with a corner tighter than your smallest cutter. Good software refuses and names the figure that stopped it. Bad software prices it and sends the price to the customer.

Step 6

Walk the customer's path

Send yourself an enquiry from your own website: file, material, quantity. See what the customer gets at once, what waits for you, and what the quote they receive looks like.

06Questions

Common questions about CNC quoting software

How is CNC quoting software different from a quote calculator?

A calculator works from the figures somebody types into it. Quoting software measures the part from its file: every hole with its diameter and depth, threads, pockets, the thinnest wall - and picks a blank from the sizes a stockist sells. The estimator starts from a finished price breakdown rather than an empty sheet.

Will quoting software replace the estimator?

No. It does the measuring and the arithmetic, and the decision stays with the estimator. The gate in the quoting rules sets which prices go to the customer at once and which wait for approval. To begin with, we recommend reviewing every quote.

Which files does it accept?

3D models in STEP, STP, IGES and IGS, drawings in PDF and DXF, and photos of a drawing in JPG, PNG, TIFF and WEBP. A 3D model gives the full geometry readout. From a drawing the software reads dimensions, tolerances and the material, and the estimator approves the price.

Which kinds of machining does it price?

Milling up to five axes, turning, mill-turn centres and sliding-headstock bar automatics. An assembly is split into parts and each is priced on its own. It does not price EDM, grinding or sheet metal.

How long does setup take?

The wizard takes you through machines, materials, rates and calibration - the first quote usually comes after about 15 minutes. Calibration needs at least five quotes: parts you have already quoted, with prices for 1 and 10 pieces, or approved quotes.

What happens to my customers' files?

Every file is encrypted with an AES-256 key of its own and stored on servers in the EU. The file of a quote that never became an order is deleted after 90 days. Files are never sent to any external AI vendor.

How much does CNC quoting software cost?

The Flexible plan costs €5 net for each quote made, with no subscription. The Start subscription is €119 net a month, Pro €219 net a month. Yearly billing is about 20% cheaper.

Can I connect it to my ERP?

You can import and export the price list as CSV or JSON on every plan. API access - quotes, orders, machines and tools from your own system - comes with the Enterprise plan or by separate agreement.

Test it on five of your own parts

Create an account with no card, add your machines and upload parts you have already quoted. You will see the readout, the price breakdown and the difference from your own prices.
