Widget and hosted page

Two ways to offer the quoting tool to customers: the widget on the shop's website and the hosted page.

The widget on the shop's site

The widget is one line of HTML inserted into the shop's website. The Widget tab in the panel's sidebar contains the snippet with the public key and the field “Allowed embedding origins (one per line)”:

  • enter one address per line, with https:// and without a path;
  • add the www variant as a separate address;
  • with addresses entered, the widget loads only on those sites;
  • with the field empty (the default), the widget loads on any site;
  • the hosted page works regardless of this list.

By default, the widget appears where the snippet is inserted. The attribute data-target="#id" places it inside the chosen element of the page instead. In both cases the height of the widget follows its content.

The hosted page

The hosted page is the quoting tool at the shop's own address (quoting.metronq.com/shop-name), with the shop's logo and colour. It requires no change to the website. Send the link to customers directly, or place it behind a button such as “Get an instant quote”.

The configurator's language

The languages the configurator offers to customers are selected in the Widget tab, under “Widget languages”. The shop's own language is always selected and is the default; the other languages are switched on individually. With more than one language switched on, a language switcher appears in the header, and the configurator starts in the visitor's browser language if the shop offers it.

To set the language of one embed, add the attribute data-lang="en" to the snippet, or the parameter ?lang=en to the hosted page address. Use this, for example, on the English version of a website that should quote in English regardless of the browser language. It works only for a language selected under “Widget languages”; any other value is ignored.

The language the customer quoted in is stored on the quote, and the e-mails to that customer are sent in it. No e-mail to the customer contains the quote PDF; the shop exports the PDF in the panel, where the language menu marks the customer's language. The language of the panel interface has no effect on any of this.

Daily quote limit and abuse protection

The public key of the widget can be read by anybody from the page source. The Widget tab therefore also contains the “Daily quote limit”, 50 by default:

  • it counts every quote started that day, from any source, finished or not;
  • it resets at midnight in the shop's time zone;
  • 0 turns it off.

When the limit is reached, or the plan's quotes are used up, customers see a notice that online quoting is paused and are asked to contact the shop directly.

The Status section of the Widget tab shows the number of quotes started today against the limit, whether new quotes are paused and why, and the pages the widget has been opened on.

Every quote has a permanent link, protected by a four-digit access code, which the customer can open later or on another device. The link and the code are sent in the approval e-mail, in the order confirmation and in the “Send the quote by e-mail” message from the panel. The widget shows both on screen while a quote waits for review, and the panel can copy both.
